THE DOGGUY was founded in 1998 by Chris Amick and is backed with over 30 years of experience. Chris has been active in dog sports since 1978 and has trained and titled dogs in both AKC obedience and Schutzhund sportwork. While Kennel Manager at the Greater Birmingham Humane Society he saw that a great many dogs were being surrendered for often minor behavior problems. Chris began offering obedience classes for both the adopted dogs and those that the owners were willing to work with instead of surrendering. Many dog human relationships were saved and several of his students subsequently earned their CGC's. Chris is also a certified AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator. Several students of the Animal Behavior College have mentored under Chris as part of their graduation and certification requirements. Chris was nominated to the International Association of Canine Professionals 2008 Hall of fame!
Chris is a professional member of the International Association of Canine Professionals, the group of dog experts recommended by Cesar Millan, star of National Geographic Channel's The Dog Whisperer"; the American Protection and Patrol Dog Association; the American Dog Owners' Association; and has assisted several law enforcement departments with their K-9 programs. He is a Training Director with the American Bully Breeders Association (www.abbadogs.org) and developed the "Street Legal" program used for obedience work and temperament testing. Chris is a contributing writer to Dogman Publication's RemyLine Chronicles with his popular "Ask The Trainer" column. He continues expanding and improving his skills by attending training, behavior, and health seminars, has completed the American Red Cross Pet First Aid program, and has completed several of FEMA's certification programs including: Animals in Disaster - Awareness and Preparedness, and Community Planning. He is involved in breed rescue with Southern States Rottweiler Rescue / Adopt-A-Rott.
Chris lives in the Birmingham area with his wife Dani and their seven Rottweilers and Cane Corsos. THE DOGGUY offers obedience / companion training and behavior modification to people with "problem" dogs. Several veterinarians refer canine aggression and biting cases to Chris as their last chance for rehabilitation and management. We have no favorite training method or ideology, preferring to utilize the dog's inherent drives and understanding that every dog is different and therefore will have different motivators. The end result is a dog that is spirited and eager to work ... and most importantly a loved member of "his" family!
